Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-06-17
The short version: LiveCaptionIt transcribes audio entirely in your browser using the Whisper speech-recognition model. Your audio and transcripts never leave your device. The only data anyone processes is anonymous, aggregate website analytics.
1. Who we are
LiveCaptionIt (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a free, client-side web application operated by Shrestha Tripathi from India. We act as the data controller for the limited, non-content data described below. For any privacy question, email shrestha.tripathi@gmail.com.
2. Your audio never leaves your device
LiveCaptionIt is a fully client-side app. Everything below stays on your device:
- Audio from the source you pick (a browser tab, window, or screen) is processed locally in your browser by the Whisper speech-recognition model. It is never sent to our servers or any third party. When you stop captioning, the audio stream ends and nothing is retained.
- Transcribed text appears only in your browser. Your last 20 session transcripts (text only — never audio) are saved locally in your browser's IndexedDB so you can revisit and re-download them. We do not transmit or log any transcripts. Clear them anytime via the “Recent sessions” panel.
- Preferences (theme, model tier, caption style, PiP window size, source preference) are saved in your browser's localStorage so settings stick between visits.
There is no server-side account, database, or upload. The app is static files served from a content-delivery network — you can verify this in your browser's Network tab while captioning.
3. Third-party requests
- Hugging Face Hub — the first time you use LiveCaptionIt, your browser downloads the Whisper model file from Hugging Face's CDN. Subsequent visits use the browser cache. Hugging Face sees your IP address as part of standard HTTP request logging.
- Google Fonts — we use Geist + Geist Mono served from Google Fonts. Google receives standard HTTP request data (IP, user agent, referrer).
- Cloudflare — our hosting/CDN provider may log standard request metadata (IP, user-agent) for security and abuse-prevention.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
LiveCaptionIt does not set any first-party cookies. We use browser localStorage (not cookies) to remember your preferences — all of which stays on your device. Third-party services we load may set cookies:
- Google Analytics sets cookies to measure aggregate page views. No personal data is collected. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Advertising (if shown). We may display ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies (such as the DART cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising via Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info/choices.
5. Your rights (GDPR & CCPA)
Because LiveCaptionIt has no user accounts and your audio and transcripts never leave your device, there is no account to delete and no profile to download. For the limited analytics data processed by our providers, and depending on your jurisdiction (e.g. the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to it. To exercise any of these, email shrestha.tripathi@gmail.com. You may also block third-party requests at your browser or network level — core captioning still works offline once the model is cached.
6. Children's privacy
LiveCaptionIt is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of LiveCaptionIt after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
8. Contact
